SABAWON stands for Social Action Bureau for Assistance in Welfare and Organizational Networking. It is a civil society organization created in September 1994, and is registered with the Government of Pakistan under the Societies Act of 1860. It is also registered with the Ministry of SAFRAN and with the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan .

SABAWON is working for a society, free of all kind of discrimination and providing an enabling environment to poor community for ensuring sustainable livelihood. Motivated by our concern for the country's poverty, affecting mostly women and children, SABAWON's mission is to provide access to primary education, health resources, prevent diseases and promote development, in social sector, through dynamic partnerships that build local capacity in efficient and measurable ways:

Currently SABAWON is implementing projects in the NWFP and Punjab provinces with UNICEF, Plan Pakistan, PPAF, EC, IWP, AKU/MoWD, Abt.Inc/USAID, Ministry of Industries Govt: of Pakistan and NEF. The Partnerships are in the field of Education, Health, Water & Environmental Sanitation, Community Physical Infrastructures, Rights, Good Governance and Institutional Development Sectors. Couple of projects have been initiated in the current month with the financial assistance coming from CARE International and PPAF. Those projects include Provision of HHE and WES facilities in government Primary schools , Drought Mitigation through Integrated Agriculture, Development of Small Dams for Irrigation Purposes and Social and Technical Assessment of over 400 Water Filtration Plants installed under Presidential Scheme of Clean Drinking Water for All (CDWA) through out Pakistan . SABAWON considers intervention in these sectors essential to reduce poverty and ensure gender balanced sustainable development. It has all the plans to scale up its operation throughout Pakistan and enter AJK as well in the mentioned sectors. We are also working for strengthening the devolved structure at district level and are providing support on regular basis for capacity building of TMAs.

All the projects are based on the principles of community participation and activities largely revolve around community awareness on several issues, ensuring participation through involving the devolved structure, school teachers' training in child-to-child approach for promotion of awareness in social sector, PTAs formation, linkages development, hand-pumps installation, latrine construction etc.

The organization has a Coordination Office based in Peshawar with a network of 9 Regional Offices spread over NWFP,  Punjab (in Pakistan ) and recently initiated an office in Afghanistan . For the expansion of its work, SABAWON has institutional arrangements with three other major organizations i.e. Water and Environmental Sanitation Network (WES Net), Integrated Regional Support Programme (IRSP) and MESIAH. Staff strength of the organization is 182, of which 50% are women. Last annual turnover of the organization was over Rs. 20 million. 

SABAWON works on development aspects in health, education, food security, capacity building, violence against women, water, sanitation, enterprise development and possess rich experience and valuable knowledge in the field of social development, decentralized governance, capacity development, poverty alleviation and building public private partnerships for achieving the common objectives.

Core values of SABAWON, which are reflected in its institutional work, include building long-term partnerships with the community, finding solutions collectively, bringing real change at the grassroots and making sustained impacts in the field.
