Project Title:   Girls Primary Education Development Project-II
(Community Mobilization Component)
     
Funding Agency:   Asian Development Bank in Collaboration with KZR Associates Islamabad
     
Project Duration:   From September 2002 to March 2003
     
Project Objective:   Mobilize school communities;
Involve the CMS headmistress in the school affairs;
Expand access to quality education and strengthen institutional capacity for monitoring and supervision;
Support staff development programs for local teachers;
Introduce quality improvement interventions including IRI supporting materials and assessment of student achievement and enrolment in CMSs;
Strengthen provincial education office management capabilities for monitoring, evaluation, student achievement and community participation in CMSs.
     
Project Areas:   NWFP 17 Districts
     
Project Cost:   Rs 1 Million
     
Project achievements: 52 Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) have been organised and strengthened;
60 training session conducted for the mobilisation and furtherstrengthening of PTAs;
20% enrolment increase recorded in the project area schools;
Parents and teachers are part of the school management;
  Assessment reports reflect that the community is now betteraware of the importance of girls' education.
